Actress Sonali Bendre made a name for herself in the Hindi entertainment industry with her charming on-screen presence and versatile performances. Having returned to her career as an actress after battling cancer, she enjoys a huge fan following that never shoes away from showering her with love and adoration. Currently enjoying the success of her web series The Broken News season 2, she recently opened up about crazy fan culture and questioned how one can put a celebrity on a pedestal.

During an interaction with Mid-Day’s The Bombay Film Podcast, she was asked if she was aware that a young man in Bhopal tragically jumped into a lake in the city and committed suicide after he failed to see her during her visit to the show. Visibly taken aback by the reports, she couldn’t believe that one could go to such lengths to meet a celebrity. Shocked at the question, she said, “Yeh sach hai? (Is it true?). The 49-year-old actress went on to recall the time she used to receive fan mail, a common practice from the 90s. Bendre revealed how she wondered many times to test it and see if it was actual blood. Quoted by Indian Express, she added, “I’d be shattered if it was. Best to appreciate, and leave it at that. Speaking about obsessive fan culture in Bollywood, the Hum Saath Saath Hain actress shared, “I couldn't understand that kind of obsession for somebody.” She added that she would never “put somebody up on a pedestal to that extent.”

On the work front, Sonali Bendre was last seen in The Broken News season 2. The show also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Ameena Qureshi, Dipankar Sanyal, and Radha Bhargava, among many others, The web series showcases the story of two rival news channels.
