'Apne 2 Will Be My Special Tribute To Three Generations Of Deols, ' Says Anil Sharma On Dharmendra, Sunny Deol And His Son Karan Deol Starrer-EXCLUSIVE
Anil Sharma reveals Apne 2 is his way of paying tribute to the three generations of the Deol family. The film stars Dharmendra, Sunny Deol his son Karan Deol and Bobby Deol.
Prolific director Anil Sharma has the singular honour of directing father Dharmendra and sons Sunny and Bobby Deol. “And now, please add the third generation of the Deol family into it. That’s right, I’m directing Sunny’s son Karan also. I am bringing all three generations of the Deols, Dharamji, Sunny–Bobby and Sunny’s son Karan in Apne 2. This is going to be my special tribute to three generations of the Deol family, ” Says Anil Sharma proudly.
Anil has directed the legendary Dharmendra in five films and Sunny in the historic blockbuster Gadar Ek Prem Katha. Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby Deol came together in Anil Sharma’s Apne in 2007. “Apne 2 will take up the story exactly fifteen years after we left off in Apne. In that sense this is a true sequel, and not just a successful film’s title being recycled,” explains Anil. “It takes the story of the same family of kickboxers forward that we saw in Apne 2, this time with grandson Karan Deol added to the Parivar.”
A sequel to Apne 2 was in the pipeline for four years. “But we couldn’t go ahead with the sequel until we had a solid script in our hands. We are now ready to take the story from Apne forward. Audiences need not wonder whether this is going to be a different story with the Deols playing different characters. The sequel will carry forward the story of the same family as Apne in 2007, just like The Godfather 2 which carried forward the story of the Corleone family,” says Anil.
A Diwali 2021 release for Apne 2 has already been announced by Dharmendra and Sunny Deol. But Anil Sharma is more cautious. “It will depend on which way the Coronavirus situation goes. Right now we can’t say anything for sure. But yes, if all goes well Apne 2 will be in theatres in Diwali next year.” (ALSO READ: Dharmendra Fears His Fans Will 'Stop Loving' Him As He Gets Older; Says, 'Consider Myself A Newcomer Even Today')
