Veteran Bollywood director and editor, Rahul Rawail, who has extensively worked in the Hindi entertainment industry, opened up about launching and working with actors like Kajol, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Bobby Deol. Having made her debut with Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya in 1997, after winning the Miss World trophy, Rai’s debut film flopped at the box office. She went on to make a name for herself in the industry as well as internationally, with her versatile performances and charming aura.
During a recent interview with Friday Talkies, Rawail opened up about his liking towards working with newcomers and took a trip down the memory lane. Opening up about his decision to cast Aishwarya as the leading lady in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, alongside Bobby Deol, he shared that she was offered the role after winning the Miss World Trophy. While shedding light on why the film must have flopped, the 73-year-old director mentioned that after the release of the movie, a fan had approached him and told him that even though the actress was pretty, he would like to make her his sister.
Quoted by Bollywood Shaadis, the director said, “I was shooting in London when the film had released. So there were a few Indians who had to come to watch the shooting. There, a boy told me, I just returned from your film–Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. I asked him, ‘how was the film?’. He was like, ‘Aishwarya Rai is very good and pretty, but she is a kind of girl, I would like to make my sister. That got me thinking, Anyway, he was right.”
On the work front, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2. The actress is yet to announce her next project. Her recent appearances on the red carpet of the 77th Cannes Film Festival had left the netizens drooling. They are eagerly waiting for her return to the big screen. Over the past months, she has been making the headlines for her rumoured separation from hubby Abhishek Bachchan.
