Shoojit Sircar’s Pink that stars Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang, is probably this year’s most stirring film. Right from the dialogues to the concept, Pink is the perfect example of how far Bollywood has come in terms of projecting women as victors and not victims. Let’s take a look at the 5 most hard-hitting scenes in the film.

When was the last time a film not only made you think, but also encouraged a debate? Pink, is one such film. When was the last time you saw a movie that made you squirm in your seat because you could relate to all that was unfolding on screen? Pink, is one such film. And when was the last time you saw the theatre fill with thunderous applause – repeatedly? Pink, is one such film. On that note, let’s take a look at the 5 most hard-hitting scenes in the film.

1. Scene: Andrea is addressed as the girl from the ‘North-East’ even before the scathing prosecution lawyer (Piyush Mishra) begins questioning her.
Why: While most women living in Delhi -- or any other Metro city for that matter -- will have at least one incident to recall when it comes to society’s sheer hypocritical attitude towards women who are seemingly independent, it’s the how the scene depicts the society’s extreme biases towards women from the North-East that makes it pertinent. It’s almost as if they assume that all women from that part of the country are ‘available’.

2. Scene: Deepak Sehgal (Amitabh Bachchan) asks Meenal (Taapsee Pannu) if she is a virgin in court.
Why: The need for the scene is debatable, no doubt, since it’s too intrusive a question but it’s what it leads to makes it one of the most hard-hitting scenes in the film. It focuses on the important lesson: When a girl says NO, it does not mean YES or MAYBE. It means, hands off.

3. Scene: Meenal (Taapsee) slaps Falak (Kirti) after the latter confesses in court that the girls took money for sleeping with the men.
Why: This no-dialogue scene is moving to say the least. For, it is a reflection of how the court proceedings take a toll on the three women. So much so, that Falak ends up confessing that the girls took money for spending the night with the three men, which, in fact, they never did. The beauty, if I may say so, of the episode lies in the fact that both Meenal and Falak are shown as strong and emotionally vulnerable at the same time. As a woman in the audience, you can’t help but acknowledge that you would have probably reacted in a similar manner had you been in this situation.
4. Scene: Rajveer (Angad Bedi) sneers as he says, “Aisi ladkiyon ke saath aisa hi hota hai.” Following which, Sehgal pulls out a picture of his (Rajveer) sister where she is seen drinking with friends.
Why: This one just strips naked the society’s misogynistic and hypocritical approach towards women whereby they are all for judging women who return late in the night and wear a certain kind of clothes, but when it comes to their mothers/sisters/wives, are delusional.
5. Scene: When Falak calls her friend to apologise to Rajveer, but ends up yelling at him.
Why: Eager to put an end to the matter, Falak, much against Meenal and Andrea’s wishes, apologises to Rajveer. However, Rajveer's uncouth tone, makes her change her mind and she is unwilling to compromise. Don’t miss the smirk on Meenal’s face on seeing the friend side with her.
