Thugs Of Hindostan Box Office Collection, Day 1: Look What Happened To The Film On The Diwali New Year's Day
Bad to very bad reviews almost across all platforms have had no impact on the box-office collections of Amitabh Bachchan-Aamir Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer Thugs Of Hindostan. The trade expectation was 50 cr, it has surpassed that figure and recorded 52.25 cr. And, a record has been created- Highest Day 1 Collection By A Hindi Film. Is it because it was a holiday? Is it because the film had no competition? Well, we shall know the answer soon, maybe today, maybe Monday. The Day 1 collections are so huge that ideally the film should sustain over the entire full week.

What also cannot be discounted that the footfalls were good despite a hike in ticket rates. It's really good news if you look at it from industry's point of view. 2018 has been in the red for Bollywood and we need Thugs of Hindostan, 2.0, Zero and Simmba to all fire at the box-office. There is no reason why the other three films in the pipeline over the next 7 weeks should not set the cash registers ringing. Zero looks very interesting and Shah Rukh Khan's charm and talent has immense gravitas, 2.0 trailer (launched in Chennai) was a swashbuckler, and Simmba has Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty behind it besides the much-loved Ranveer Singh. FYI, here is trade analyst Taran Adarsh's tweet spelling out 52.25 crore:

SpotboyE.com rated Thugs Of Hindostan 2.5 stars, emphasising that the director Vijay Krishna Acharya has failed to roll out an interesting film. It's just a grand spectacle, said SpotboyE.com Editor Vickey Lalwani. It will be interesting to watch the numbers attained today and over the weekend. A few trade pundits had forecast a collection of 180-200 cr in the first 4 days itself, let's see if the prophecy bells ring true.

Reading the reviews and the Twitter chatter (Twitterati had gone quite ballistic too against the film), Team Thugs Of Hindostan must have been a worried lot. It's only now their time to feel really happy this Diwali.
