RAW-Romeo Akbar Walter Box-Office, Day 1: John Abraham’s Spy Thriller’s Start Not So Raw, After All
John Abraham is back to entertain fans with his spy drama, RAW-Romeo Akbar Walter. In spite of average reviews, the film has opened to a decent figure at the box-office
Looks like a sunny Saturday for John Abraham and Team RAW- Romeo Akbar Walter. The film’s first day collections have come in and they are quite decent, compared to the reviews the film has been receiving.
According to Box Office India, John Abraham starrer has collected approximately Rs 5 crore on Day 1. The disappointing news is that John’s last stint at the big screen- Satyamev Jayate had made a whopping Rs 20 crore on the first day of its release.
However, while trade was expecting a higher opening of about Rs 6 crore, RAW has managed to reach the expectations decently well. But the acid test of the film begins from today. Considering the reviews are not very positive among the masses and critics, it will be difficult for the film to ace the game in the coming days.
SpotboyE.com Editor Vickey Lalwani rated the film 2.5 stars and raised a lot of questions pertaining to the film’s mediocre direction. He wrote, “Why does a war/patriotic film (almost) begin with a song where the singer has only wailed? The less said about the inexplicable (and sadly so noticeable) background score (Hanif Shaikh), the better. Why is the narrative so confusing? Quite inspired by Raazi even if Grewal denies, I think he should have accompanied me at least three times (before making this) when I went to see that Meghna Gulzar's classy film six times in a theatre? Why is the editing so shoddy? You just can't wait for the interval to happen! And since when did an espionage thriller (set out to be one) become a film of only disguises? Above all, why give John Abraham such a raw deal? The man looks earnest, and mind you, he was good in his last outing Satyamev Jayate.”
The first day seems positive but as we said the real test will begin from today. Let’s see if John’s film manages to mark a promising weekend collection too.
