Force 2 And Tum Bin 2: The Sequels Miss The Mark At The Box-Office
The jury is still out on whether demonetization can be blamed for the twin debacle at the box-office this weekend
While Tum Bin was a sleeper hit which raked in the moolah despite a slow opening weekend, its successor Tum Bin 2 does not look like it will follow suit. Bad reviews, a lukewarm response to its music and a weekend collection of Rs 1,91,00,000, point to a sad fate for this romance starring Neha Sharma, Aditya Seal and Aushim Gulati.
The other release of the weekend was the Sonakshi Sinha-John Abraham starrer Force 2. While the action-thriller fared better than Tum Bin 2, its performance was not upto expectations given its star cast and scale.
Force 2 collected 18,62,00,000 over its first three days despite positive audience reaction.
Most filmmakers have pointed to the current cash-crunch in the country to the dismal collections at the ticket-counter, including Rock On 2 which brought in a shocking Rs 5 lakhs on its opening day.
But how much can demonetization be blamed for the debacles? And would these films have done well if Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not thrown the nation into a crisis with the surprise move of banning old currency notes?
We will have to wait and watch to see how many more victims does demonetization claim in tinsel town.
