2.0, Weekend Box-Office Collection: Hopeful Sunday For Rajinikanth, But Does It Call For A Feast?
Expectations were humongous from Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar’s 2.0, helmed by Shankar. The opening was disappointing, however the film showed growth over Saturday and Sunday. It was an extended weekend, making Monday film’s Day 5 and this is where it is most likely to start walking on quicksand.

Trade analyst, Taran Adarsh tweeted the extended weekend figures of Rs 97.25 cr. While the film witnessed a growth of 37.14 % on Saturday, with Rs 24 cr, on Sunday it leaped further with a 41.67 percent growth, making Rs 34 cr at the ticket windows.

The growth in the figure is definitely good news for Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and the makers of 2.0, but 5 days to touch 100 crore for a film of this stature does not send out a very positive signal too. The film has a long way to recover its cost and more than the monetary gain, what’s disappointing is that the reviews are not very forthcoming, how they usually are for a Rajini film.

SpotboyE.com Editor, Vickey Lalwani rated the film 2.5 stars and wrote, “Had it not been for Akshay Kumar's scene which tells us how he became that dangerous crow which you see in the trailer, I don't know if there would have been anything to praise in this overconfidently made film by Shankar. Gosh, he's left an open end for 3.0! Okay there are comebacks in movie business, but this re-emergence of Robot was certainly not required. In a 500 crore plus film. One wonders how 1000 crore will be recovered which Rajinikanth had promised at the trailer launch in Chennai- unless of course Rajini's die-hard fans refuse to be reasonable.”

Movie Review

Besides lukewarm reviews, the film is being thrashed on social media by netizens too. Twitter stands divided where Rajini’s fans are slamming media houses which have given negative reviews to the film, and others are thrashing Rajini’s fans and those who have given positive reviews for being biased. With bad word-of-mouth and weekend being over, we wonder if the film will sustain any further and show the growth it did over Sat-Sun. Monday brings a litmus test for 2.0.
