First Day First Show: Taapsee Pannu’s Naam Shabana Gets A Dull Opening

We first met the feisty spy Shabana in Akshay Kumar starrer Baby, and now she has got her own film. But Taapsee Pannu’s turn as the namesake in Naam Shabana has opened with a dull fizz instead of a bang.

Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee and Taapsee Pannu’s action thriller hit screens today and though the  promos definitely looked promising, the film has received average reviews.

As we visited the theatres today, we saw that the turnout was much better than last Friday when Phillauri and Anaarkali Of Aarah released.

However, the word-of-mouth publicity for Naam Shabana seems positive. People coming out of the theatres liked the performances and the thriller was praised for keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats till the last scene.

However, when asked to compare Baby and Shabana, most viewers said that Baby was better than the new release.

So,  let's check what the trade experts and theatre owners have to say about the film.

Trade expert Taran Adarsh said, "The opening has been average. But Naam Shabana has a strong word-of-mouth among the audiences. Thus we can expect the film to pick up over the weekend."

Gaurav, the Chief Spokesperson of Carnival Cinemas said, "The opening hasn't been too good. Our theatres have had just 20-30% occupancy. But people have been saying great things about the film, and thus am sure the numbers will multiply over the evening shows and the weekend."

Film distributor Manoj Desai, the owner of Gaiety-Galaxy and Maratha Mandir, said, "The opening has been OK. We had 55% occupancy. The film is a good thriller and people are liking Naam Shabana."
