First Day First Show: Machine, Trapped & Aa Gaya Hero Get A Lukewarm Opening
Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt's Badrinath Ki Dulhania is drawing more crowds than all of this week’s releases combined together including Govinda’s comeback vehicle Aa Gaya Hero
This week
theatres have something for everyone. There is Govinda's masala flick Aa Gaya
Hero, Rajkummar Rao's survival drama Trapped and then there is the slick
Abbas-Mustan thriller Machine. However none of these releases have managed to
pull in the crowds.
Reason: Badrinath
Ki Dulhania.
The Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer has proven to be a crowd-pleaser and theatre
owners are cashing in on it appeal.
Surprisingly, the
theatres did not screen the new releases in their morning 9 am slot. The earliest was Trapped which got the
11’o clock show at some theatres. Machine and Aa Gaya Hero were kept for the
late afternoon shows of 4 and 4:30 pm.
The morning shows
were allotted to either Badrinath Ki Dulhania or the Hollywood fairytale Beauty
And The Beast.
And how did the
new releases fare with the moviegoers. People loved Rajkummar Rao's acting in
Trapped. The audiences lauded the film for keeping them on the edge of their
seats till the very end. The film has got good reviews too. But the lesser
number of prints will affect Trapped’s box-office collection.
Looking at the
footfalls, it is obvious that Trapped, Machine or Aa Gaya Hero is not primed to
rake in the moolah.
But what do the
trade pundits feel about the three releases this week?

said, "All the films cater to different viewers. Machine is slightly
better than the rest because of the number of screens it has released in. Still
the opening for all of the films is average. Talking about Badrinath Ki
Dulhania, it's earning well and even on the second week it's expected to do
great business."
Ravi Sibal from
PVR Juhu said: "The collections are not good. Trapped is slightly better
in terms of the footfall. We will not be screening Govinda's film as it is not
for the multiplex audiences. I can't say how it's faring in the single screens,
but am sure it has its own audience base."
Talking about the
sentiments of the single screen audience, Manoj Desai from Gaiety Galaxy at
Bandra said: "I have been reiterating this fact again and again - this is
exam season and people won't drop in to watch movies now. Badrinath Ki Dulhania
had star power, so it managed to bring in audiences to the theatres. This
week's releases have not registered more than 50% occupancy in our theatres,
which isn't a great start."
