Swastika Mukherjee Reveals People Abused Her For Not Posting About Sushant Singh Rajput's Death And For Not Giving Her Opinion On Nepotism - EXCLUSIVE
Swastika Mukherjee who won hearts with the portrayal of Mrs. Basu in Sushant Singh Rajput's last film Dil Bechara spoke to us at length about the recent incident in which a fake article got her acid attack and rape threats. She also revealed that people were upset with her and abused her when she didn't post about Sushant's death on social media or gave areaction to the unfortunate incident the very same day. Her no opinion on nepotism also called for some wrath. Read on.

What happened after you got the man arrested who sent you acid attack and rape threat?
After arresting them, I got a call from the Police who told me they are crying, hounding and saying sorry. Also he is saying I wrote it just like that. Is this some joke going on? Because I am the complainant, the Police wanted to know whether I want to take this to the court or I will come to the police station to record my statement?

What did you decide then?
I decided to go ahead and got my statement recorded. The police revealed to me 90% of the time the woman complainants back out when they are told that you have to come down to the police station or have to go to the court because they feel embarrassed. Why should I feel shame if you are abusing me? I feel that person should feel shameful, not me. In fact, now I want to tell people who school these trolls on social media and post things like be fearless, it is not our shame. Should come out and take this step practically, sirf likhkar aap kya sabak sikha doge?
What convinced you to take this step?
Because of this one fake report I started getting rape threats, acid attack threats. Even without checking the authenticity or hearing it from my mouth. People started giving reactions. It's important to let people know that you can't just go write whatever you want and go away with it. Because this is the usual notion of people who keep on trolling, slamming and abusing others. Its not just woman who face this but a lot of my friend who are gay constantly get abused on social media. Just that with public figures it multiplies 1000 times. On social media people think they can do whatever they want to as there is no face attached to it and they can get over from all the consequences. I really have a problem with that attitude and I thought if I take a step today this is not going to be for me alone but hundreds of others and if this can even stop10 people from doing such a thing due to fear of police. I think that is a win for me.

Were you misquoted for "Suicide is in fashion now"?
I was not misquoted, it was a complete false statement written by them.  I had given an interview to a publication where I haven't spoken about the matter and some other publication whom I have never given an interview in my life printed this quote saying "Suicides are now in fashion" naming the publication I have spoken. So you could understand how annoying it is.
Was it difficult to get a hand on the culprit. How long did the whole procedure take?
I have to give the credit to cybercrime police. When I complained about the incident they clearly told me it will take time but we will find the person which they did and got him arrested. I am really thankful to them. Also I want to mention just because I am a public figure that doesn't mean I used my contacts or they took me in notice immediately and action was taken. I followed all the protocols which any citizen had to follow to get the person arrested.

Did you also face backlash for not posting for Sushant on the day he left us?

The day Sushant ended his life why were people expecting us to write about my pain and emotions for him on social media the very same day. Why? This is completely my choice if I ever want to talk about the matter in my life or not. And honestly before giving any reaction first I need to understand what has actually happened? I have to manage my grief. Whenever I have strength to speak up I will do that.  Just because I have worked with him twice in films and knew him you can't expect an immediate response from me. They trolled me for that also why don't you speak about his death. In fact, people abused me for that.

Go on...
Today a lot of debate is happening over nepotism and if a media person calls me asking what you want to say on this? How would I answer when I am just taking my baby steps in the Bollywood industry? If you ask me about my industry where I have been working for the last 20 years I can talk. How can I comment on how Bollywood works when I myself don't know how this industry actually works. And if I am saying this then also people are coming and abusing me saying 'Sushant ko jisne maar diya aap uska side le rahe ho'.
