Raveena Tandon: Don't Lynch Papon, The Kiss 'Could Have Been A Mistake'
Raveena Tandon rewinds on singer Papon's controversial kiss in The Voice India Kids and says that the organisers of the Bihu celebrations in Assam should not have left him out
In view of Papon being sidelined in the Bihu celebrations
in Assam where he is normally a superstar every year (we carried the report
yesterday), SpotboyE.com spoke to Raveena Tandon.
Raveena was enraged when the Papon kiss controversy broke
out (the singer had kissed a minor in February in The Voice India Kids), but
later she had seen it in a broader perspective. And why not? We all take need
to take stock of many happenings around us as days roll by and should never
hesitate to voice it if we feel differently later, even if slightly.
This is what Ravs (as she is fondly called) had to say to
us, last evening:
Papon has been left out of the Bihu celebrations in
Assam, where he was a prominent face every year till now...
I feel he should not have been left out.
But you were one of the most furious when his kiss
controversy broke out...
Yes, I was. But if you have closely followed the chain of
events that unfolded as days went by, you will agree with my current opinion.

Go on...
I think Papon's legal team didn't help him by saying that
it was a guru-shishya kiss. The legal team was trying to justify it as a guru-shishya
love, which angered a lot of people. If it is seen as a guru-shishya kiss, it
was definitely unacceptable. But later, in fact much later, Papon came out to
say that it was a misjudgment. So, I feel that he can be given the benefit of
doubt.
It would have been great if Papon had spoken much
earlier. He was very late on the scene. Maybe his legal team advised him to
keep quiet for a while- but his period of silence was long. By that time, not just the legal team's
guru-shishya statement had done the damage but even many sections of the media
had reported it extensively.

But it is also possible that Papon didn't speak the truth
eventually...
Now that we will never know. But think of it, he has a
clean record. He is not a repeat offender. As I said, we can give him the
benefit of doubt, misjudgment ho jata hai, it has happened with many people
when they rushed to kiss their friend on the cheek.
Let's not lynch Papon. The kiss could have been a
mistake.
I wouldn't have given him the benefit of doubt if there
were other girls who would have come out to complaint against him in the same
regard like a few cases of sexual harassment in the recent past have seen, but
no one did.
Raveena Tandon's Outing With Kids
Aajkal itna hype ho jati har baat that the truth somewhere gets buried. Jhooth bhi sach lagne lagta hai.
Would you blame the social media for that?
Absolutely. If you are on social media for even a slightly longish period, you begin to feel as if the world is ending tomorrow.
Are you taking precautions, say like keeping your kids away from social media?
I haven't allowed my kids to be on FB, Twitter and Instagram. I have told them that they can be a part of it only when they can differentiate between right and wrong, truth and falsehood, life and fiction.
