Chunky Panday is on cloud nine. Unka bas chalta toh he wouldn't have been home this morning but at daughter Ananya Panday's debut film Student Of The Year 2 trailer launch! You know how excited he gets, sometimes. And why not now? This indeed is a very big day in his life. Okay, so you want to know a few things about Ananya if we are not wrong. So, we called up Chunky sometime before the trailer launch and this is how the conversation went:
3 simultaneous covers of Elle for your daughter Ananya even before Student Of The Year 2 trailer launch?
I guess the whole cover is all about celebrating youth. They reached out to her and there must be something about her that they liked. They took her to Italy to shoot all the pictures. She was so excited that it had to be seen to be believed.
Did you go with her to Italy?
I haven't been on her sets of SOTY 2 yet (laughs).
Did she send you any pictures from Italy?
Nope (pauses).
Go on...
I'm excited and nervous about SOTY 2. Just can't wait.
What is the mentoring you have done in her case?
Ananya is a very honest person. I keep telling her to just be herself. Don't pretend. Just enjoy your life now. You are going to college. I treat the film industry as a continuous platform of learning. You are going to make a few mistakes. Do some good things. People are going to like you and not like you as well, so enjoy. I think the next 10-15 years for her is only learning. I myself am still learning as an actor.
Do you feel trifle scared when you think that there may be times in Ananya's life, when social media goes against her?
I feel trolls wouldn't affect her at all. There's a lot of maturity in her.
Does she have time deadlines to come home at night?
Bhavna (wife) tells even me I have to be home at this hour (laughs). And, that's always been the case with my both girls. But now, Ananya is grown up and will earn her money as well, so I guess it's time to let her take a few decisions.
Are you going on the sets of SOTY 2 before the shoot ends?
Yes, I'm waiting to go and see her on sets. Apparently, they are shooting for a song soon, but I don't know if that's going to happen or not. But, I really want to watch her work.
Do Bhavna and you tell her what she got to wear?
No, she does her own stuff. I think the whole young generation of today knows what works for them and what doesn't. One has a lot to learn from them. Plus, there's lots of talent in this young breed.
Look at Alia Bhatt...
Wow! What films she's doing. It's just amazing.
Left a huge mark even in Gully Boy even when her role was not so long. Her scenes stay with you...
Absolutely.
Guess, we need better writers if this young generation is given the right opportunities...
Yes, you are right (pauses).
Please continue...
What I like about today's times is that so many films are being made which does not have females for just glamour. This, in turn, has blurred the lines between commercial and art films.
You are right. By the way, I saw Raazi 6 times in theatres. And, the best case of commercial cinema in recent times is Simmba.
What?! Raazi 6 times? But you are right, it was a fab film. As for Simmba, I loved it. I think it was great fun.
What about your movies?
I have Housefull 4 before Diwali, but before that I have Saaho on August 15.
