Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy became a huge success, both critically and commercially. Right from the performances, to the songs and theme, everything was well appreciated. While Ranveer Singh as Murad and Alia Bhatt as Safeena delivered standout performances, Siddhant Chaturvedi as MC Sher came out to be a revelation. Zoya is obviously on cloud nine.

We caught up with Zoya over the weekend at JW Marriott, Juhu. We had a long chat with her dissecting the movie. From the conception of the film to the last song Apna Time Aayega, she discussed everything in detail. Just in case, you don’t know, the song was earlier called Sabka Time Aayega. Zoya even spoke about how she met Siddhant Chaturvedi, at the Inside Edge success party where he danced to Gallan Goodiyan. She even revealed about her love for rap, and especially spoke about Naezy’s track called Aafat. Then, she went on to praise Ranveer Singh. She had the best adjectives in place to describe the energyball that he is. Not just her male lead, she was all praises for Alia too.

Apart from Gully Boy, Zoya also spoke about her Amazon Prime web series Made In Heaven. She said, “It’s set in Delhi. It’s about two wedding planners. It has 9 episodes.” Zoya's love for web shows pulled her towards the genre. So, from decoding her success formula to whole-heartedly speaking about her projects and what intrigues her the most in her actors, Zoya had lots to say.
