Amitabh Dayal lashes out at his wife for ruining his daughter's formative years

Abused and harassed by Marathi filmmaker Mrunalinni Patil, her teenaged daughter ran away from her house and ended up at her father Amitabh Dayal’s doorstep, a few days ago. SpotboyE.com got in touch with Marathi actor Amitabh (Viruddh...Family Comes First, Kagaar) as he relived the nightmare that his daughter went through. "I never wanted to speak on this," he tells SpotboyE.com, "But enough is enough. The water has come up to the neck. My wife threw out our daughter from the house at 11 pm. What could be worse than that? Ask me whatever you want."

Excerpts from the conversation that followed:

Your daughter just landed up at your house, alone?
I don't want to relive the nightmare.

I insist. Please tell us...
My 15-year old daughter (name withheld on request) ran away from her mother’s place on June 7 and came to my house. The moment she saw me, she broke down and told me whatever had happened. I consoled her, took her to my lawyer and told her to return to Mrunalinni. I promised her that I'll sort out her matter with Mrunalinni, who has not been staying with me since 7 years.  But that night, Mrunalinni threw our daughter out of her house. She was in no mood to listen. At 11 in the night, my daughter was standing on the road.

Which school does she go to?
Arre, Mrunalinni had stopped sending her to school. She had also been calling up my daughter’s friends for updates on her. When they hesitated, she threatened them that she will approach their school principal. She also keeps telling them that my daughter is mentally unstable and characterless. Which mother does all this? Around 10-12 of her friends have even come forward to give their statement in this regard.

But why would Mrunalinni torture her own child?
It’s in her nature. Tell me, if your kid fails in a paper or two, will you keep him/her locked for 6 months? If your kid is not sleeping on time, somewhere it’s you who has trained him/her like that. But will you beat up the kid for the same? Today, she is getting panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. She keeps recalling how her mother tortured her and starved her for days and days. Also, another man has been living with her for the past 5 years. I was not aware of it, as I never used to visit her.

Why didn’t you contact your daughter earlier?
I kept requesting Mrunalinni, but she always evaded me saying the kid is not well. I have the entire chat history with me. Finally, when I realised that she will not let me meet my daughter, I approached my lawyer, who sent her a notice. Then, on May 4, my birthday, my daughter met me for the first time in 13 months.

How did you get married to Mrunalinni?
I got married to Mrunalinni Patil in 2000. We were together but after a while, things started going haywire. But because of our daughter, I had to be with her. However, for the past 7 years, I have not been with her. And for the past one year, I have not met my daughter. I have been constantly telling Mrunalinni that I want to meet my child, but in vain. Finally, I had to send her a legal notice in this regard. Then, over the last one month, I got to know that my daughter had been held captive and was not given anything to eat.

Your daughter has filed a FIR against her mother...
Yes. Did she have any other option?

Where is your daughter now?
Of course, with me.

How long will she stay with you?
She will be with me now, and won't return to Mrunalinni. She is in a mess. It’s been a very traumatic time for her and me. I was shocked to hear about my daughter’s plight. She couldn’t tell me about it all at once, she opened up slowly. Then she contacted her friend, advocate Rizwan Siddiquee’s daughter. Rizwan took it forward from there.
