Ajay Devgn And Kajol On Why They Have Refused Many Films Together, Box-Office Numbers, Tanhaji And More- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW
In an exclusive conversation with SpotboyE.com, Ajay Devgn and Kajol spoke about their upcoming project, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, the numbers game, the advent of good content on OTT and lots more
Ajay Devgn and Kajol are reuniting on the big screen after a long gap with Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior in which Ajay plays the role of Tanhaji Malusare and Kajol plays his wife, Savitribai Malusare. Naturally, they began by talking about their film. Ajay started off by saying, “Tanhaji is an unsung warrior, and he is very well known in Maharashtra. But outside Maharashtra, people do not know much about him. There was a small paragraph in our school on Tanhaji and that's very sad.”
Then, he spoke about how Kajol came onboard. Said Ajay, “Her role is not very lengthy but it's a very important one because the sacrifices are not done by the heroes alone, their wives also go through so much of pain. So I thought nobody else could pull it off and Kajol was the apt choice for the role.” SEE VIDEO INTERVIEW BELOW.
Next, they spoke about how they have been offered a lot of projects together, but they always wait for something worthwhile.
We pointed out to Ajay that he’s one of those rare actors who hasn’t been typecast in any category unlike many of his contemporaries, to which he replied, “That gives me the leeway and the satisfaction to do different things. Otherwise, you get stuck in a rut doing the same kind of things. Lot of actors don’t try, then some try and succeed, and some try and don't succeed.”
Next, Ajay and Kajol spoke about the change in content over the years and Kajol opined that thanks to the advent of many OTT platforms, the content coming up is really good. She feels it’s a good time to be in the industry.
As they spoke about content, we asked them if the box-office business and the numbers game leaves them worried. We also asked Ajay if backing a big film like Tanhaji as a producer makes him nervous- and Ajay quickly said “Not at all. If you have a great team, you can get the quality you want without wasting extra money.”
Ajay also added that the number game has been too hyped by the media. “What's important is when you invest in something, you need to at least cover up and make something out of it.” Fair enough!
Ajay even spoke about casting Saif Ali Khan as Udaybhan Rathod. He said that he couldn’t think of anybody else for the menacing, quirky character.
And we hope that you didn't miss our RAPID FIRE (SEE IT ABOVE IN CASE YOU MISSED) round with this couple, who were brutally honest and made the entire reaction extremely pleasant.
Tanhaji releases on January 10.
