The film got delayed because Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed was blacklisted from visiting India as he participated during an election campaign. The film release date has not been announced till now

Nirmal Chakraborty To Resume Shooting Of His First Film ‘Datta’ From October
After months of delay, the shooting of Datta which is directed by Nirmal Chakraborty is likely to start from October. As reported by Times of India, the director has confirmed the information.

According to the report, the director said film got delayed as Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed was not permitted to visit India and he will be able to return after a couple of months. Ferdous, who is essaying the role of Bilash in the film, was in India to shoot for Datta in April. 

The film got stuck when Ferdous during his April visit was seen at a political rally where he campaigned for a TMC candidate. Following which the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) blacklisted him from visiting India.  After the incident, the film has been on hold.

Based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel, Datta stars Joy Sengupta, Firdous Ahmed and Biswajeet Chakraborty.  It evolves around an affluent Brahmo woman and an indigent but brilliant a Hindu young man. This is Nirmal Chakraborty’s first film direction and actress Rituparna Sengupta is also acting in the film.

Chakraborty has designed the costumes and the props, keeping in mind the particular period. The director reportedly researched for seven to eight months before he started shooting.

The release date of the film has not been finalised.
