Nawazuddin Siddiqui's freaky yet completely adorable character in Sohail
Khan's Freaky Ali is making waves. This man is every director's dream come
true. But hang on, strike one director's name off that list. Did you know that
Nawaz, the sheer powerhouse of talent, had a rather sour experience when it
came to the sequel of the yesteryear's hit Aankhen?
SpotboyE.com has the scoop that the critically acclaimed actor was the
original choice to play a part in the multi starrer Aankhen 2. But lo and
behold, Arshad Warsi replaced Nawaz in the sequel being helmed by director
Gaurang Doshi. Nawazuddin was in a shock when Doshi announced the star
cast of the film in a splendid media event recently.
We put on our detective hat and set out to crack
this unsolved mystery. Why would someone not want Nawaz in their film? We're
not saying Arshad lacks acting chops, he's a great actor but you don't replace
one great actor with another for no reason.
SpotboyE.com contacted both Nawaz and Gaurang Doshi, while Nawaz chose
to remain silent, the filmmaker was more forthcoming, he said that Nawaz was
never approached for the part.
This is not the first controversy around the film. Aankhen 2 has
been in news for all the wrong reasons. Starting with a delay to make an
official announcement about the film's cast to a delay in it's shoot and more
recently the news of Illeana walking out of the film....the film has been
marred with controversy from the word go.
