April Fool's day is celebrated on 1st April all over the world. It is the day dedicated to pranksters who try to comfy the atmosphere with some lame and practical jokes and tricks.

During the time of lockdown, where so much tension and frustration is creeping in our society, the April Fool’s Day is like a breath of fresh air for all, Ain't it? Though there is nothing official as such about the day and neither it is a public holiday, the day is desperately awaited across the world. Geoffrey Chaucer’ The Canterbury Tales has a reference of 32nd March as 1st April. This foolish reference later came to be known as the start of the April Fool’. 

In year 1564 Edict of Roussillon stated that New Year’s day celebrated on 1st January has been moved to Easter which is celebrated in April. So the people celebrating this false New Year were noted as April fools. 

In the beginning of April, the Romans celebrated the festival of Hilaria wearing wigs and masks and did pranks on each other. Which was believed to be April Fool’s establishment story.



In Scotland, the April Fool’s day is also called the Gowk Day, which means Cuckoo, which is a symbol for fools. While in Brazil, it is referred as Dia da Mentira which means ‘Lie Day’, where Brazilians fool each other on this very day.

Every culture and country has its own different story for April Fool' Day. This day is a great way to have prank and a good laugh with friends and family.
