People across India showed their solidarity in the fight against darkness amid Coronavirus pandemic, by coming out to their balconies or windows, and lighting candles, diyas, flashlights at 9 pm sharp for 9 minutes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to people to turn off their lights at homes on April 5, at 9 pm and join the initiative to light a candle. However, amid the event, many people also started bursting firecrackers, and several celebs such as Sonam Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu were shocked. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan also called out people who burst crackers.
Irfan Pathan tweeted, “It was so good until ppl started bursting crackers #IndiaVsCorona.” Soon after he shared the tweet, he started receiving abuses and hate comments directed at him for his tweet. Irfan Pathan did not take kindly to the abuses and trolls coming at him, and instead took a jibe at them. He sought Twitter’s help and shared screenshots of some comments. He wrote, “We need fire trucks can u help? @TwitterIndia.” While many of his fans urged him to ignore the trolls, he replied to a comment saying, “I’m not worried abt WHAT PPL WILL SAY. PPL WHO KNOW ME AWARE OF MY CHARACTER But HATE has to stop."
