Popular Canadian singer Shubhneet Singh rose to fame with his breakthrough single ‘We Rollin,’ which was released in the year 2021. He amassed a huge fan following not only among the common people but even celebrities like Virat Kohli and Yo Yo Honey Singh, who credited him for his songs. He was even set to perform in India in over 10 cities this month. However, a recently deleted post of his, has taken the internet by storm with netizens demanding a mass ban on the singer.

Born and brought up in Canada by his parents who both work as professors, Shubh belongs to a Punjabi Sikh family. He also has a younger brother, actor and singer Ravneet Singh. Having risen to fame with his song We Rollin, he went on to release more popular singles like Elevated and Offshore. Earlier this year, his debut album Still Rollin ranked 16th on the Billboard Canadian Albums Charts. The singer found himself in the midst of a controversy after he shared a photo of India’s distorted map, without the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and the North Eastern states. He wrote on his now deleted Instagram story, “Pray For Punjab.” 




As soon as his post went viral on social media, netizens dubbed the singer a Khalistani supporter. For those who don’t know, Shubh’s post went viral amidst the ongoing tensions between India and Canada over the allegations made by the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Not only has Indian cricketers Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Suresh Raina unfollowed the singer on his social media platforms, but even the electronic brand boAt withdrew its sponsorship from the singer’s tour. They even issued a statement announcing that they are a ‘true Indian brand,’ which is why they decided to withdraw from the upcoming tour. 

Even the youth wing of the ruling party BJP, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), opposed to his three-month-long ‘Still Rollin India Tour which will be happening in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Ludhiana, Jaipur, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and Pune. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut too took to her Instagram stories to deem him a criminal. Quoted by India.com, a part of her caption read, “Beheading India in its map should have serious legal consequences… GOI must make strong laws against such criminals… do din jail ki hawa khilake, inke dimaag ke Khalistan mein answer bhar do, fill in the blanks kr do inn sabka.”

Shubhneet Singh is yet to release an official statement or comment on the ongoing controversy, regarding the postponement and cancellation of his India tour from September 23.
