Chinese masses have been suffering from the unprecedented surge of COVID-19 cases. Amid the stressful times, the Chinese have turned to Hindi cinema legend Bappi Lahiri’s superhit song “Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja” from 1982 movie “Disco Dancer”. The people have referenced the song to express their anger and frustration over China’s stringent zero-COVID policy.

The song ‘Jie mi, Jie mi’, composed by Lahiri and sung by Parvati Khan, is being sung on the Chinese social media network ‘Douyin’ in Mandarin which translates into “Give me rice, give me rice”, by people in the videos mockingly showing empty vessels to show how they are deprived of essential food items during the lockdowns.

Interestingly, the video has managed to escape the Chinese censors which are quick to filter any post deemed critical of the nation’s regime.

The Chinese regime has decreed a zero-COVID policy in several cities including Shanghai which has a population of over 25 million and was under lockdown for weeks with people confined to their flats.

A slew of videos featuring security officials going strict in cracking down on people protesting the lockdowns has gone viral.

As per the latest reports, workers assembling Apple Inc.’s new iPhone staged a walkout from a factory in central China’s Zhengzhou following a virus outbreak and complaints of unsafe working conditions.

Workers began to leave the Foxconn factory after some of them fell ill in mid-October and received no treatment.

China, on Sunday, reported 2,675 cases, up from 802 from the previous day.

China’s President Xi Jinping has mandated a zero-COIVD policy which implies that cities and localities have to undergo strict lockdowns and people of the area are shifted to quarantine centres if any positive cases are reported.

In almost all cities, including Beijing, testing is mandatory for all residents. Without negative test results, people in the cities cannot enter public places including restaurants and markets.
