Vinod Kambli is often regarded as one of the most talented cricketers in the history of Indian cricket, with the potential to rank among the greatest players globally. This sentiment was echoed by Kapil Dev, one of India's most celebrated all-rounders, during an interview where he acknowledged Kambli's immense talent and the possibility of him becoming a significant figure in Indian cricket. However, Kapil Dev also highlighted a crucial lesson: "Talent without hard work is nothing." He drew a poignant comparison between Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar, stating that while Tendulkar exemplified the combination of talent and hard work, Kambli's career trajectory served as a cautionary tale for those who rely solely on their innate abilities. Reports indicate that the 52-year-old cricketer is grappling with health issues and financial difficulties, surviving on a modest pension of Rs. 30,000 from the BCCI after losing his job during the COVID-19 pandemic. As time progresses, Kambli’s physical strength has waned, making it increasingly challenging for him to work as he once did. In an earlier interview, he expressed his reluctance to seek financial assistance from Tendulkar again, despite knowing that his childhood friend is aware of his struggles.
Kambli further emphasized that Tendulkar had already extended considerable help in the past, and he did not wish to burden him further. Married to Andrea Hewitt and a father of two children, Jesus and Johanna, Kambli has often shared moments with Tendulkar on social media, reflecting their enduring friendship amidst the trials he faces.
