Actress Tanushree Dutta pioneered the MeToo Movement in the Hindi entertainment industry in 2018 after which many other personalities from the Indian film industries opened up about their sexual harassment experiences. Over the years, she has never shied away from openly talking about the sexual harassment allegations that she made against veteran actor Nana Patekar. She has alleged that he harassed her during the shoot of a song in their 2008 film Horn Ok Pleassss. She now has spoken about the recently released Hema Committee Report and stated how ‘useless’ and ‘waste of time’ the reports are.
As per media reports, she also expressed how sexual harassment survivors being denied work opportunities in the industry shows no ‘compassion’. She went on to slam actors like Nana Patekar and Dileep, terming them ‘narcissistic psychopaths’. For those who don’t know, they were accused of sexual misconduct in the past. Addressing the Justice K Hema Committee report on sexual harassment women face in the Malayalam film industry, during an interview with News 18, she pointed out the futility of the Vishakha Committee (formerly known as the Women’s Grievances Committee), which works to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. Quoted by the Hindustan Times, Tanushree said, “These committees and reports, I don’t understand them. I think they’re useless. It took them seven years to make a report on what happened in 2017? What’s the point of this new report anyway? All they had to do was arrest the accused and enforce a strong law and order system. I remember hearing about the Vishakha Committee, which came up with so many guidelines and prepared pages and pages of reports, but what happened after that? The names of the committees just keep changing.” ALSO READ: ‘Knew That It Was All A Lie’: Nana Patekar FINALLY Opens Up About Tanushree Dutta’s Sexual Harassment Allegations During The MeToo Movement
Dutta went on to slam the actors and stated that there was no cure for them. She said, “People like Nana and Dileep are narcissistic psychopaths. There’s no cure for them. Only a vicious and vengeful man can do what they did. I don’t care about these committees. I have no trust in this system. It feels like with these reports and committees, they’re just wasting our time rather than doing the real work. Having a safe workplace is a basic right for a woman — or any human being, for that matter.”
For those who don’t remember, Tanushree alleged that Patekar, dance choreographer Ganesh Acharya, and director Vivek Agnihotri misbehaved with her during the shoot of a film. Having kickstarted the MeToo Movement in India in 2018, through her statement, she revealed that Nana “tried to sexually abuse” her. She even added that even though the song was to be shot with a single actor, the veteran would be present on the set during the shooting process.
