The Bandra police have booked former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli for allegedly assaulting his wife, Andrea Hewitt and their son under the influence of alcohol. As reported by various media publications, he had been drinking liquor at their residence in JWL Cooperative Housing Society at Bandra Reclamation. As per the FIR, he got violent and started thrashing her and her son.
According to the police, an FIR has been filed against him under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 504 (insult) and 324 (willful infliction of harm with dangerous weapons). Quoted by Hindustan Times, a police official said, “Kambli threw the broken handle of a cooking pan at her, causing injuries to her head. He also tried to hit her with a bat but she managed to wrest it out of his hands, after which she immediately took both her children and left the house.”
Andrea underwent treatment at the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra after which she went to the police station to lodge a complaint against her husband. While the cricket is yet to arrested, the officer further stated, “We have booked Kambli for voluntarily causing injuries with a dangerous weapon and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace under the Indian Penal Code.”
A report by Times Of India, that quoted Andrea on the matter, states that everything ‘is now getting sorted out’.
This is not the first time something like this has happened. The ex-cricketer had been booked by the police in a drinking and driving case in 2022. He and his wife were also booked for allegedly beating up their maid.
