Odisha Health Minister passed away on Sunday hours after he was shot by a policeman at a point-blank range near a busy square in Odisha’s Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district. The minister sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the local hospital after being shot by an assistant sub-inspector at point-blank range in the chest. He was later airlifted to Bhubaneswar’s Apollo Hospital for better treatment. 

The incident unfolded at Brajrajnagar town of the district when the minister was on his way to attend a meeting.

“On operating was found that a single bullet had entered and exited the body, injuring the heart and left lung and causing massive internal bleeding and injury. The injuries were repaired, and steps were taken to improve the pumping of the heart. He was given urgent ICU care. But despite best of efforts, he could not be revived and succumbed to his injuries,” said a statement from Apollo Hospital.

As per the latest reports, the Odisha government has announced rendering a state honour to Naba Kishore Das. The national flag will fly at half-mast on the day of death and on the day of the funeral and there will be no official entertainment for 3 days from January 29 to January 31 in the entire state.

Soon after the news of Das’ demise spread like a wildfire, CM Naveen Patnaik expressed his shock and distress over the unfortunate incident of Minister Naba Das. The CM said that he is shocked and distressed over the unfortunate demise of Minister Sri Naba Das. 

The doctors tried their best to save his life, however, they found no success since he could not recover, stated the Chief Minister. Das was an asset to both the government and the party. He successfully carried many initiatives in the health department to the benefit of the people, the CM added.
