Prakash Kapde, a State Reserve Police Force jawan (SRPF), posted in former Indian cricketer and Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar’s security personnel team allegedly shot himself during a visit to his ancestral home. He had gone on a brief vacation to his hometown in Jamner town. As reported by the NDTV, he shot himself with his service gun. The report quoted Senior Police Inspector of Jamner Police Station Kiran Shinde.
According to the report, the incident took place at around 1:30 am at the victim’s house. The investigation of the matter is ongoing since the exact reasons behind the alleged suicide are unknown. The 39-year-old officer's family members had woken up to the sound of a gunshot and found him lying in a pool of his blood. They rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. No suicide note was found from the place of suicide.
Shedding light on the matter, Shinde told the news agency IANS, “As per preliminary investigations, he may have taken the extreme step owing to certain personal reasons, but we are waiting for the full details of the probe.” The NDTV report further adds, that Kapde’s body has been sent for an autopsy by the Jamner Police, who have filed an accidental death report. Further investigations are underway including questioning his family members, colleagues, and his other acquaintances. The SRPF might reportedly also conduct their independent inquiry as the matter involves a jawan assigned to VVIP security.
For the unversed, Prakash Kapde joined the SRPF 15 years ago. He served with the Special Protection Unit (SPU) of Maharashtra Police on deputation. He was posted at Sachin Tendulkar’s Bandra residence, last year. He is survived by his aged parents, wife, two minor kids, his brother, and his other family members.
