The struggle to acquire Twitter has finally concluded and Elon Musk emerged victorious on Thursday. However, the decisions he made on his first day as the new owner of the microblogging platform, have invited much criticism and brutal flak from the netizens.
As per the latest reports, the Tesla chief has reportedly started laying off top executives of the company for misleading him. A Reuters report suggested that a list of top Twitter executives fired by Elon Musk included Chief Executive Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal and legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde.
For the initiated, Hyderabad-born Vijaya Gadde was a key executive who took up the paramount decision of permanently banning the former US president Donald Trump from Twitter following the infamous Capitol Hill riots.
As per the Blomberg report, Elon Musk has informed Twitter employees that he is not planning to lay off 75% of staff when takes over the company. Musk, over the past few months, has casually mentioned laying off staff when he takes over Twitter.
It is also being speculated that Twitter employees are still anxious about expected staff cuts.
A Reuters report also revealed that Agarwal and Segal were in Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters when the deal was signed and both the top executives were escorted out.
Elon Musk reportedly aims to transform Twitter by loosening the service’s content moderation rules, making its algorithm more transparent and nurturing subscription businesses, as well as laying off employees.
“The long-term potential for Twitter in my view is an order of magnitude greater than its current value," the now Twitter Chief had said on Tesla's call with analysts on Oct 19.
Interestingly, Elon Musk shared that he would reverse the ban on Donald Trump, however, the ex-US President has shared that he doesn’t want to return to the platform. Instead, he plans to launch his own social media app called Truth Social.
