Saina Nehwal’s father Harvir Singh Nehwal on Tuesday demanded an apology from actor Siddharth for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the ace shuttler.

In a conversation with ANI, Harvir Singh Nehwal said, "A person from the cinema industry (actor Siddharth) has made some bad remarks against Saina (Nehwal) on Twitter. I condemned his statement. He should come out in open and apologise. Our family is really disturbed. Saina is also unhappy.”

The latest statement comes after Siddharth Suryanarayan to a tweet of Nehwal on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security breach in Punjab.

Saina raised concerns over PM Modi’s convoy being stopped for nearly 20 minutes on a flyover in Punjab’s Bathinda after the protesting farmers had blocked the road last week. Taking to Twitter Saina wrote, “No nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn, in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists. #BharatStandsWithModi #PMModi.”

Siddharth is quite popular for his bold and unabashed opinions. Responding to Saina's tweet he wrote, "Subtle cock champion of the world. Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna".

In no time, Siddharth found himself in the of controversy on Monday, January 10. Meanwhile, Twitter has been divided over his post. While some have totally condemned his tweet, a few have rendered him silent support.

In a previous statement to ETimes on Monday, Harvir said, "I have gone through all the details. Whatever he(Siddharth) said is not right. I got to know that he is a big actor in the South. He used very wrong words against Saina. It's very wrong for him to give such derogatory statements."

He went on to point out that Saina is currently in Delhi and preparing for the India Open 2022 and added, "I spoke to Saina over the phone and she said that she didn't like someone writing about her. Even other organisations like National Commission for Women came in support and said that was very bad and never heard these type of words coming from a gentleman."
