Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has passed away. He was 99. Buckingham Palace announced the heartbreaking news. The official Twitter account of the Royal Family tweeted a statement from Buckingham Palace that read, “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

Another tweet by the Royal Family read, "The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.  Further announcements will be made in due course. " Prince Philip, officially known as the Duke of Edinburgh, married Princess Elizabeth in 1947. As per reports, the flags at Downing Street have been lowered to half-mast as a mark of respect to the Duke of Edinburgh, post the announcement of his death.

In February this year, Prince Philip was admitted to King Edward VII's hospital as he was feeling unwell. According to BBC, Prince Philip had later undergone a procedure for a pre-existing heart condition at St Bartholomew's and he left the hospital in March after staying there for a month for the treatment.
