Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburg and Queen Elizabeth II’s husband passed away on Friday. He was 99. Buckingham Palace released a statement on the same and confirmed the news. The Palace statement issued after midday spoke of the Queen’s “deep sorrow” following Prince Philip’s demise at the Windsor Castle. According to a report, Buckingham Palace said that Harry will attend his grandfather’s last rites alone, without pregnant wife Meghan Markle. The report stated that Prince Philip will be given a ceremonial royal funeral, held within the ground of Windsor Castle.
Reuters reported a statement released by Buckingham Palace that stated the plans of the funeral. In the report, it was mentioned that the Duke of Sussex is planning to attend the funeral alone. The report mentioned that Harry’s wife, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has been advised to not travel, by her physician. The report mentioned that the funeral plans had to be scaled down due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. But, it was also mentioned that Prince Philip’s funeral will be in line with his wishes. As per the report, there will be no public processions. The report also mentioned that the ceremony held at Windsor Castle is limited to 30 mourners only.
After the news about Prince Philip’s demise made it to the headlines, Harry and Meghan wrote a short message on their Archewell Foundation website. The message read, “In the loving memory of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh 1921-2021 Thank you for your service … You will be greatly missed’.”
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle’s absence at Prince Philip’s funeral comes a month after her and Prince Harry’s explosive tell-interview against the British Royal Family.
