More than hundreds of people including 399 children have died in floods and landslides triggered by unprecedented monsoon rains in Pakistan. Reportedly, life in Pakistan has come to standstill with nearly half a million people living in relief camps. Amidst this, many Pakistani celebrities like producer-actor Humayun Saeed, actress Mahira Khan, cricketer Shaheen Afridi, and others appealed to people on social media to extend their support to flood victims by contributing money.
However, soon after they made the requests, these stars got brutally trolled with netizens asking them what they are doing other than just tweeting. Many also pointed out that they earn a lot of money from movies and hence why they are not giving donations. Humayun Saeed tweeted, “Extremely distressing situation all across Pakistan following rain & floods. I appeal to the government to please take urgent action & provide all necessary relief to our displaced brothers & sisters. All of us too must extend our support to the flood victims in every possible way.” While reacting to his tweet, one netizen wrote, “only tweeting for what ?? when the showbiz ppl will contribute ??.” Another said, “Bhai jo film sy pasay kmaye ha wo donate kr do ye khud ja k madad kro.”
Mahira, on the other hand, shared a link for donation and wrote, “Big or small.. whatever one can do.” Replying to her, one netizen said, “Mahira you say about the flood was the truth but the people are in flooding area if you able to help of them you do.”On Monday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern over the human loss and said he was deeply saddened to see the destruction caused by floods in Pakistan.
For the unversed, Pakistan is facing a grave situation due to heavy rainfall. The country has never ever witnessed a broken monsoon like this. As per reports, both in Sindh and Balochistan provinces rainfall is 500 percent above average.
