As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry mark their second anniversary today, May 19, 2020, comes another news. The couple who stepped down from their royal duties on March 31, 2020, and relocated to LA with their one-year-old son Archie, have been reported to have started paying back the taxpayers amount used by them to refurbish their home Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. The former royal couple had back then after their wedding used the money generated with the taxes paid by the British citizens to renovate their house. The amount which is reported to be paid back by this couple is around $3 million.
The above-mentioned report was published in PEOPLE.com. Though it was reported by the publication that the couple is repaying $3 million, spokesperson of the couple chose to remain mum on it. The news pieces also carried the statement of Buckingham Palace which mentioned of the former Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wish to repay the money. The statement read, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their wish to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home.”
The decision was taken by the couple in the month of January 2020, regarding returning the Sovereign Grant funds utilized by them post their discussion with Queen and the other members of the Royal family.
