Two-time Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar was arrested this morning after his alleged involvement in the murder of a fellow wrestler in Delhi. According to a report in NDTV, he had been on the run from the police for about 20 days and had evaded arrest. The wrestler was reportedly arrested with another co-accused from northwest Delhi’s Mundka.
Ever since his alleged involvement in the death of a 23-year-old wrestler in Delhi, the police had been searching for Sushil Kumar. They had also announced a reward of Rs. 1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of Sushil Kumar and a reward of Rs. 50,000/- for Ajay Kumar. ANI tweeted about the news of Sushil Kumar’s arrest, and quoted Chinmoy Biswal, Delhi Police PRO saying, “Our Special Team today arrested Sushil Kumar and Sunil from Delhi's Mundka area. They are accused of killing another wrestler. Both of them were on the run and had a reward of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively. Probe is on.”
The report in NDTV quoted police saying that Sagar Rana and his 2 friends were assaulted by Sushil Kumar and his associates on May 4 at the Chhatrasal Stadium. All three people had to be hospitalised and later on, Mr. Rana succumbed to his injuries.

On May 18, Sushil Kumar had approached a local court seeking protection from arrest, however, his anticipatory bail was rejected by the court, and the judge reportedly said that Sushil was the ‘prima facie the main conspirator’ and that the allegations leveled against him were serious in nature.
