In response to the growing backlash, Faruqui took to social media to clarify his intentions and offer an apology. He explained that his comments were made in the context of "crowd work," a common practice in stand-up comedy where the comedian interacts with the audience in a spontaneous and often humorous manner. Faruqui emphasized that he never intended to offend anyone and expressed regret over the hurt his words caused. In his apology, he stated, "I have noticed that some people are getting hurt over my clip, and as a comedian, I don't want to hurt anyone. When we see such things on the internet, and we notice it, we understand the issue. I want to apologize and say sorry to all. Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra." The situation escalated further when BJP MLA Nitesh Rane weighed in on the controversy. In a video message, Rane issued a stark warning to Faruqui, threatening to "send him to Pakistan" and referring to him as a "green snake." Rane's comments underscored the political sensitivities surrounding the issue, as he warned Faruqui against making any further remarks about Hindus or the Konkani community. The MLA's remarks were followed by a post on his X account, where he reiterated his threat and promised direct action if the comedian repeated his behavior.
The controversy not only highlighted the fine line comedians must tread when dealing with sensitive topics but also underscored the potential for humor to ignite political tensions. Despite the apology, the incident has left a lasting impact on Faruqui's public image, with some questioning the limits of comedic expression and others calling for greater accountability in the entertainment industry.
