The gossip mills were abuzz was the news of the royal couple, umm or we should say the former royal couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle planning to split from the royal household. Well, it turned out to be true as the couple has officially announced decided to step down as the senior members of the royal family. The news was confirmed by the official Instagram account of Duke and Duchess last night. Meghan and Harry, in their joint statement, announced that they are looking forward to "work to become financially independent" in the next chapter of their life.

Well, if the reports are to be believed, the couple took this decision without consulting the Queen of England or Harry’s father, Prince Charles. "We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the royal family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. We have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America,” read an excerpt from their long post.

As soon as the news was out on social media, netizens couldn’t help but share their epic reactions on the same. In fact, a hashtag called #Megxit made it to the top trend on Twitter. While many people credited Meghan Markle for taking such a historic decision, others couldn’t help but share some hilarious memes on this matter. “Meghan is single-handledly breaking apart a family built on centuries of colonialism, imperialism racism and brutality. However, it is being speculated that the royal family is deeply hurt and disappointed over the decision taken by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. In a statement issued by Buckingham Palace, they revealed that the situation was “complicated” in the royal household. "Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through,” read the statement.
