The Kolkata doctor's gruesome rape and murder case has taken the nation by storm with conversation around women safety taking centre stage. While the investigation on the matter has been ongoing, protests across the country have been taking place demanding justice for the junior doctor. As per a new report by the Hindustan Times, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) at the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, who have been on an indefinite strike and protesting against the murder and rape of the junior doctor from Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, announced that they will be continuing their strike.
Quoted by the media publication, the AIIMS RDA statement read, “Resident doctors will be available for providing elective OPD services of around 36 specialities, including medicine, surgery, obs&gynae, paediatrics, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and others to patients outside Nirman Bhawan.” The statement further stated that the doctors will also provide patient care services as per their Hippocratic oath, in the nation’s interest.

AIIMS RDA said, “We want to highlight the lack of security of healthcare professionals nationwide. We are urging government to accept our plea for an urgent central ordinance for safety and security of healthcare workers and institutes. We request authorities to allow for the same and provide necessary arrangements for elective out patients services outside Nirman Bhavan.” For those who don’t know, the resident doctors of AIIMS have been on an indefinite strick ever since August 12th. They have suspended all elective and non-essential services including OPDs and wards.
Talking about the 31-year-old Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder case, the trainee doctor was cruelly murdered and raped on August 9 at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The heinous crime reportedly took place late at night in the third-floor seminar hall of the chest department. The doctor had allegedly gone to rest in the hall during her 36-hour shift, on the day of her murder and rape. As per the reports, the officials found multiple lacerations and wounds on her body. The crime has sparked outrage on social media as well.
