The COVID-19 pandemic has been affecting many countries across the world drastically and is taking many lives as well. By far, the country is under lockdown, but the cases testing positive is increasing with the rapidly spreading of the virus. As both India and Pakistan have been facing crucial times like other countries, recently, in an interview, Shoaib Akhtar suggested that a closed-door series should be held to jointly raise funds to fight the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. Now, former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev reacts to Shoaib Akhtar’s idea of made-for-television three-match ODI series and slammed him in return.
Speaking to PTI recently, Shoaib Akhtar proposed a closed-door series to raise funds to fight the virus in both India and Pakistan. Reacting to Akhtar’s idea, Kapil Dev in an interview with the news agency mentioned that the proposal is not feasible. During the interview, Dev said that India doesn’t need money as we have enough and mentioned that what’s important right now is that how our authorities work together to deal with the crisis. He said, “He is entitled to his opinion but we don’t need to raise the money. We have enough. For us, what is important right now is that how our authorities work together to deal with this crisis.”
Talking about the BCCI donating a hefty amount lately, Kapil Dev said that it does not need to raise funds and mentioned that it is in a position to donate much more if at all needed. Further, the former Indian cricket team skipper said that the situation in the country is unlikely to get normal anytime soon and said, “The situation is unlikely to get normal anytime soon and organizing a cricket game means putting our cricketers at risk which we don’t need to,” and added that it is just not worth the risk.
