After battling with neuroendocrine tumour or cancer, Irrfan Khan breathed his last this morning when he succumbed to this ugly disease. One of the prolific actors of Bollywood who was yesterday hospitalized and kept in the ICU in a Mumbai hospital passed away, leaving everyone grieving. Apart from his fans, Bollywood celebs like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Taapsee Pannu, Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani, Parineeti Chopra, Kriti Sanon and many more took to their social media handle to offer condolences to Irrfan’s family.

What is a Neuroendocrine Tumor?
A neuroendocrine tumour (“NET”) is a relatively rare type of cancer that can occur in many parts of the body. This cancer is not only found in the brain, however, the tumour also exists in places where the neurological and the endocrine systems work together and that is most commonly found in the intestine. But it is not restricted to that area, it is frequently found on the lungs and pancreas too.
What are the Types of Neuroendocrine Tumours?
Since the nature of Neuroendocrine tumours is quite rare, hence, less than 1% of cancers fall into this category. The types of Neuroendocrine Tumors are:
Carcinoid tumours
Merkel’s cell tumours
Neuroendocrine carcinoma
Pheochromocytoma
Insulinoma
Gastrinoma
Vipoma
What are the Symptoms?
Fatigue, weight loss, or pain in the area, however, these symptoms are not major, it is easy to miss or ignore. If the diagnosis is been delayed, the outcome of the treatment gets a little worse. In many cases, these tumours can secrete excessive amounts of different hormones into the bloodstream, causing flushing of the face, sweating, and diarrhoea.
