During the IPL 2024 clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, a fan found himself in a peculiar situation when he tried to walk away with the match ball. The incident, captured in a viral video circulating on social media, showed a cop intervening and forcefully retrieving the ball from the fan before tossing it back onto the ground. The fan, who had managed to get hold of the ball after a delivery went for a maximum, was wearing a Rinku Singh jersey. However, his attempt to keep the prized possession was thwarted by the vigilant police personnel, who dealt with him quite sternly by making sure the ball returned to its rightful place on the field. Amidst this off-field drama, on-field action unfolded as the Kolkata Knight Riders put up a stellar performance in the rain-affected contest at the Eden Gardens. Players like Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, and Ramandeep Singh played crucial roles in guiding their team to a total of 157 runs in just 16 overs. In response, the Mumbai Indians struggled during their run-chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. In contrast, the Knight Riders' victory secured them a playoffs spot, making them the first team to do so in IPL 2024.
