As the novel Coronavirus is spreading like wildfire in these times of uncertainty, one of the teams of Indian Premier League 2021, Delhi Capital’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his exit from IPL 2021 as he wants to support his family due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He recently took to his Twitter handle to announce his exit while also mentioning that he will make a return after things go in the right direction.
“I would be taking a break from this year's IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times,” he tweeted after his team defeated SunRisers Hyderabad in the first Super Over of the season on Sunday. Ashwin further wrote, “I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction. Thank you @DelhiCapitals,” he added in the tweet. Earlier, in a tweet, Ashwin said he is heartbroken to see the healthcare industry falling apart. He wrote, “Heartbreaking to see what’s happening around my country! I am not in the healthcare fraternity, but my sincere gratitude to each of them. I would also like to make an earnest appeal to every Indian to exercise caution and stay safe.”
Due to the rise in the positive cases, quite a few players are opting out of the game. Speaking of which, Rajasthan Royals' fast bowler Andrew Tye left the game in the middle. Royal Challengers Bangalore players Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson have also decided to travel back home, citing personal reasons.
“Adam Zampa & Kane Richardson are returning to Australia for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of IPL season. Royal Challengers Bangalore management respects their decision and offers them complete support,” RCB said in the official statement on their Twitter handle.
