Indian Premier League 2020 is soon to begin from March 29. The cash-rich tournament is scheduled to take place in different parts of India. While Maharashtra Government has taken a stand and are contemplating on postponing IPL to later dates due to the outbreak of coronavirus, a Public Interest Litigation has been filed in Madras High Court as a few matches are also scheduled to take place in Bengaluru. The latest report suggests that PIL has been filed in Madras High Court demanding cancellation of IPL.
This PIL has been filed by advocate G Alex Benziger and is expected to come up before a division bench comprising Justices MM Sundresh and Krishnan Ramaswamy on March 12, as reported by India Today. In the petition, the petitioner has said, "As on date, as per the website of the World Health Organisation, there was no specific medicine or to prevent or to treat the COVID-19."
Further, Karnataka Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar has also written a letter to the Centre seeking advice on whether the tournament should be conducted or not. "I have written to the Centre saying there are IPL matches scheduled to be held in Karnataka, and that Maharashtra has already taken a decision in this regard. We have asked for the Centre’s guidance on what action we should take," said the medical education minister.
Now, it remains to be seen how BCCI manages to tackle the problem of Coronavirus whilst holding the matches on the already fixed dates. Stay tuned for more updates. (Also Read: Coronavirus Outbreak To Affect IPL 2020? Sourav Ganguly Confirms IPL Is ‘On’, Will Take All Precautions)
