With the increasing consumer base of web content, the Information and Broadcast Ministry of India has reportedly decided to censor it. If reports are anything to go by, then all the content on the web will be given a censorship certificate just like how it happens for films. With this, one can expect many beeps on our shows considering the language and nudity showcased in the series provided on platforms like Netflix and other OTT platforms. This is for the web series curated for the Indian audience.

No official announcement has been done on it as of yet, however, it seems to be an aftermath of the #BanNetflix trend that took social media by storm recently. A social worker named Ramesh N. Solanki had filed a complaint against Netflix stating that its shows portray India in bad light. A part of his complaint read, “Almost, every series on Netflix India is with the intention to defame the country on a global level. It is with deep rooted Hinduphobia that the platform is portraying the nation in a bad light.”

If this turns out to be true, it would pose a threat to all those who want to use the cinematic liberty to demonstrate their vision in its pure form.

Meanwhile, many producers from Bollywood are turning their route to digital platforms and are venturing into creating original content for the web. The recent one being filmmaker Karan Johar who is all set to release his film drive featuring Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez on Netflix. Even Shah Rukh Khan is coming with his Bard of Blood.
