Days after a video of IndiGo passengers, travelling from Goa to Delhi, eating on the tarmac at the Mumbai airport went viral on social media, a fine has been imposed on IndiGo airline and the Mumbai airport. According to the Free Press Journal, on Wednesday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) imposed a fine of Rs 1.50 crore on the airline.

As per the media publication, the BCAS penalised IndiGo for Rs 1.20 crore, and the DGCA fined the airline Rs 50 lakh. The organisations also imposed a fine of Rs 90 lakh on the Mumbai airport, also known as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. At the same time, DGCA fined the airport Rs 30 lakhs and the BCAS Rs 60 lakhs. On Tuesday, the BCAS issued a show-cause notice to the airline and the airport.

In the video, which is now going viral on social media, passengers from IndiGo flight 6E2195, en route from Goa to Delhi, were diverted to Mumbai. According to the report by the FPJ, the flight was diverted due to operational issues attributed to the low visibility conditions in Delhi on Sunday, January 14. The passengers on the flight had to get off the plane and sit on the tarmac at the airport to eat their food.

The show-cause notice to IndiGo was issued due to the violation of Rule 51 of the Aircraft (Security) Rules, 2023, regarding failure to observe due aviation security procedure concerning the flight which had landed at the Mumbai airport as a diversion case. The notice was issued to the airport in violation of Rule 51 of the Aircraft (Security) Rules, 2023, about the failure to report an incident for flight no. 6E2195 which had landed at the Mumbai airport.
