Indian folk singer Malini Awasthi and PETA are engaged in a Twitter war. The Padma Shri recipient picked on the body looking into the animal rights across the world for a campaign about the upcoming Rakhi festival. This campaign by PETA was seen to be speaking about not harming any animal, especially cows during this festival and opting for leather-free goods, thus, protecting cows. This campaign of the animal rights organization forced the singer to call it absurd, as she mentioned in her reply of never heard of leather rakhis, thus making this campaign weird and sick.
PETA tweeted “This Raksha Bandhan, protect cows too. Cow face #GoLeatherFree #NotOursToWear #VeganLeather #RakshaBandhan” To which Malini Awasthi replied, “This is absurd! Never heard of Rakhis being made of leather! @PetaIndia your malicious campaign is weird and sick!” As soon as they received this reply from the singer, they reverted to her and justified themselves, by tweeting, “We didn’t say it was. Surely you do not disagree that Raksha Bandhan is a good day to extend protection to cows who are our sisters under the skin by taking a pledge to go leather-free, for life.”
To which Malini replied, RakshaBandhan is a festival celebrated by Hindus, who worship Cow, hence preaching to have a leather-free rakhi seems like propaganda. Also, she urged them to invest in protesting against certain festivals which urge people to kill animals.
