The makers as well as the cast of RRR have got a big reason to celebrate as the film has won big at the prestigious Golden Globes 2023. Yes, you read that right! SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, for the track ‘Naatu Naatu’ defeating the American singers' chartbuster songs. The foot-tapping number features Jr NTR and Ram Charan and is sung by the singers Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj. Notably, it is the first Indian song to win the award.
RRR was also nominated in the Best Non-English Language Film category at the award ceremony. The peppy dance number 'Naatu Naatu' won the best original song award and was reportedly competing against Taylor Swift’s Carolina from Where the Crawdads Sing, Lady Gaga’s ‘Hold My Hand’ from Top Gun: Maverick, and “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther, Rihanna’s Wakanda Forever among others. Composed by MM Keeravani, the song was immensely loved by audiences for Jr NTR, Ram Charan’s bonding, their dancing style, and of course because of its beats, choreography, and musical storytelling. The song was also released in Hindi as ‘Naacho Naacho’ in Tamil as ‘Naattu Koothu’ in Kannada as ‘Halli Naatu’ and in Malayalam as ‘Karinthol.’ The hook step of NTR Jr. and Ram Charan dancing together became very popular and was an instant hit on social media.
Interestingly, Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR along with Alia Bhatt-starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara, and The Kashmir Files also features in a list of 301 movies that are eligible to be nominated for the upcoming Oscars this year.
