Coronavirus Outbreak: The Start Date Of IPL 2020 Has Been Postponed Until April

All around the country people love the IPL (Indian Premier League) season. Every year, people wait for the IPL season to watch their favorite teams play and win the trophy. With IPL held last year, the team Mumbai Indians bagged the IPL trophy after a victorious game. As the Novel Coronavirus is spreading rampantly across the countries, after shutting down of schools, cinema halls, etc in Delhi and around the country, the start date of IPL 2020 has been postponed until April.

On Twitter, the official IPL handle shared an update on the postponing of the IPL 2020. The tweet read, “Announcement: #VIVOIPL suspended till 15th April 2020 as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation..” The decision of moving the start date has come after the global concern over the fast-spreading of COVID-19. The IPL 2020 season that was supposed to start on March 29 has now been moved on to a new date. The IPL 2020 will now start on the date of April 15, 2020. The decision was taken by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and Honorary Secretary Jay Shah, the various management members of the IPL and the government.

Meanwhile, as per reports in ESPNcricinfo, the IPL sent out the necessary information to all the eight franchises on Friday and mentioned that it would meet up with the owners on Saturday in person in Mumbai to debrief them on the matter further.


On the other hand, this week, the WHO (World Health Organization) declared the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus outbreak a pandemic after the cases affected by the disease detected in many countries across the world. By far, Indian cities like Kerela and Delhi have been vastly affected by the deadly virus and the state of Haryana also declared COVID-19 as an epidemic. Also, with the virus spreading much faster around the globe taking down many lives, many sports matches, film releases around the world have been postponed until further notice.
