Bollywood actor Sonu Sood was dubbed as a ‘messiah’ for his philanthropic work towards the migrant workers and daily wage earners during the COVID-19 pandemic. He continued helping people in need, leaving netizens to laud his efforts. Having made a name for himself in the entertainment industry through his versatile performances, he often takes to his official social media handles to comment on the happenings around the world. Amid the ongoing violent clashes in Bangladesh, he urged the Government of India and the citizens to help bring back fellow Indians.

Resharing a heartwrenching video of an alleged Bangladeshi Hindu woman expressing her grief over the happenings in the country. She goes on to alleges that the country is witnessing a mass Hindu genocide and has sought help from the authorities online. Taking to his X (formerly known as Twitter) handle, Sonu urged that people should do their best to bring back all ‘fellow Indians’. The 51-year-old actor wrote, “We should do our best to bring back all our fellow Indians from Bangladesh, so they get a good life here. This is not just the responsibility of our Government which is doing its best but also all of us. Jai Hind.” While fans lauded him for his efforts to bring awareness about the situation, a section of netizens trolled him for spreading misinformation. Netizens schooled him and informed him that the woman in the video is a Bangladeshi Hindu, a minority in the country, and not an Indian. One wrote, “They are Bangladeshis. They are Hindu citizens of Bangladesh & not Indians. Hindu kahne mein kaahe ki sharam. Yes we must get them back under d provisions of CAA.” Another wrote, “Fellow Indians? How are Bangladeshi Hindus Indians? It takes courage to write and address Hindus who are facing religious persecution there. Unfortunately, courage does not come free with abs.”


For those who don’t know, the ongoing Bangladesh riots started after the Government there reportedly introduced a new quota system, which awarded the descendants of the “freedom fighters,” who “liberated Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971” according to a report by Aljazeera, around 30% of highly coveted government jobs. This led to violent clashes in the country. On Monday, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, resigned from her post and fled to London via India, as per recent reports. Videos and photos of the vandals destroying public property and stealing goods from her bungalow are going viral on social media.
