VIVO was the title sponsor for this cricket tournament and had invested Rs 2,199 crore in 2018 for a five-year deal. However, after the border tension between India and China that took place in Ladakh in June 2020 and which made the Government Of India impose a ban on more than 59 Chinese apps, the mobile brand pulled out its name from the sponsor's list. Having said that, the title sponsorship is now vacant and according to a report in HT, Patanjali is considering this position as this will also give global recognition to the company.

Confirming the development, Patanjali spokesperson S K Tijarawala told PTI: “We are considering this. This is for Vocal For Local and making one Indian brand as global, this is the right platform. We are considering that perspective." However, Tijarawala also added that the company is yet to take a final call on the issue as he was quoted saying, “We have to take a final decision, whether we would take it or not.”

Meanwhile, the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) announced on Sunday that the much-awaited cricket tournament IPL 2020 will begin from September 19 till November 10, 2020.
