It was in 2021 that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s elder son Aryan was arrested by the former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Director, Sameer Wankhede in a ‘drugs on cruise’ case. Two years after the entire controversy, the latter is still making the headlines. As per a report by the Indian Express, NCB legal adviser Japan Babu has now filed a defamation case against the ex-NCB officer.

According to the report, Babu filed a case against Wankhede in the Delhi Magistrate court, Patiala House on October 6, for using his audio clip in the petition claiming that Aryan’s name was removed from the chargesheet at the last moment. The 2008 batch IRS office had produced the transcript of their conversation to prove that he was right in arresting SRK’s son during the raid on the Cordelia cruise and that the star kid was not ‘charge-sheeted by NCB SIT due to external reasons’. The leading daily reports that the Indian Legal Service (ILS) officer, Japan Babu, in his petition, stated that it came to his notice that Sameer, in his anticipatory bail had “malafidely” claimed that he, through a phone call dated June 2, 2022, informed him that the charges were proposed against Khan in the original draft complaint which was prepared by him. However, the draft was never submitted in the court and the SIT received a separate draft from outside which was then presented in the court, which gave Shah Rukh’s son the clean chit. For those who don’t know, Wankhede’s petition quoted Babu from the conversation he had recorded. ALSO READ: Sameer Wankhede EXTORTION CASE: SRK’s Manager Pooja Dadlani Under Scanner? For the unversed, it was in October 2021, that Sameer had conducted a raid on the Cordelia cruise from Mumbai to Goa, after getting information about a rave party. After his arrest, Aryan had remained in police custody for over 26 days. He was even sent to the Arthur Road Jail during that time. However, he was granted bail by the court due to a lack of solid evidence against him.
